The Electoral List Review Committee at the level of Algerian consulates abroad has extended the period of objections to registration or removal from electoral lists until Friday, May 1, 2026, at a time when the process of withdrawing collective candidacy declaration files and individual signature forms inside and outside the country continues, in anticipation of the upcoming electoral dues scheduled for July 2.
The committee stated, in a statement on Monday, that the exceptional review period for electoral lists, which began on Sunday, April 12, 2026, concluded on Sunday, April 26, 2026, after opening the way for members of the national community registered within the consular departments to review their data and ensure its accuracy, whether it is a matter of registering for the first time or updating personal data.
Accordingly, the period for receiving objections regarding registration or removal from electoral lists was set from Monday, April 27, until Friday, May 1, 2026, in accordance with the legal provisions stipulated in Articles 68 and 69 of Order No. 01-21 of March 10, 2021, which includes the organic law related to the electoral system.
The same source explained that this stage allows everyone concerned the right to appeal registration or delisting decisions, whether the matter relates to personal objections or appeals belonging to others, provided that the applicable legal procedures and specified deadlines are respected, in a way that ensures the transparency of the electoral process and the accuracy of the approved lists, as objections are filed at the level of the headquarters of the competent consular committees that have been recruited to study the files within the legal deadlines.
In a related context, the Independent National Election Authority continues to receive concerns and comments received from political parties and citizens, as it works to address them in coordination with various stakeholders from the relevant public authorities, within the framework of ensuring the good conduct of the electoral process, as several political formations raised a number of concerns related to the organizational and legal aspects, especially those related to the conditions for candidacy and the procedures for preparing lists.
On the other hand, the political parties concerned with the upcoming legislative elections are continuing the process of preparing lists at the state level, in addition to intensifying their efforts in the field of political recruitment, by attracting young people, especially those with qualifications, in an attempt to enhance their presence on the electoral lists.
In this context, the Independent National Election Authority provided, on Sunday, a number of clarifications related to the conditions for candidacy, focusing in particular on the issue of political affiliation and the status of the elected, with the aim of controlling the legal framework regulating the process of accepting nomination files and avoiding problems that may arise during the various stages.
The authority confirmed that candidacy remains possible in a number of specific legal and regulatory cases, as elected officials who continue to exercise their term normally under the same party affiliation with which they were elected are allowed to submit their candidacy without any legal impediment. It also clarified that in the event of the expiration of the electoral term or the loss of elected status, the person concerned can run again, whether under the banner of another political party or within a free list, as stipulated by the law.
In the same context, the Commission stressed that running as an independent candidate on a free list remains an available legal option, whether by continuing in this capacity or even later joining one of the political parties, in addition to cases in which the candidate may face internal or organizational problems within his party, where resorting to free lists is considered a possible legal solution that guarantees continued participation in the electoral process.
