Universal Pictures has unveiled the first trailer for Other Mommy, the latest horror film from Host director Rob Savage, with Jessica Chastain taking on one of the most unsettling roles of her career.
Based on Josh Malerman’s acclaimed novel Incidents Around the House, the psychological horror follows eight-year-old Bela, whose already fractured home is upended by a mysterious presence she calls “Other Mommy.” The sinister figure looks exactly like her mother, Ursula, but its increasingly disturbing behaviour soon convinces the rest of the family that something deeply unnatural has entered their lives.
Chastain stars opposite Jay Duplass, while Arabella Olivia Clark plays Bela, the young girl caught between her real mother and the uncanny figure claiming her attention. The cast also includes Dichen Lachman, Arian Moayed, Sean Kaufman and Karen Allen.
The film marks Chastain’s return to horror after memorable turns in Mama and It: Chapter Two, while continuing Rob Savage’s run of intimate, supernatural thrillers following Host and The Boogeyman. Produced by Blumhouse and Atomic Monster, Other Mommy also reunites two of modern horror’s most successful production houses.
The trailer first debuted exclusively in U.S. cinemas ahead of screenings of Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, quickly generating buzz online before its official digital release.
Other Mommy is scheduled to arrive in theatres on October 9.
