At the Angelus: «The Christian presence in history
be aimed at service, not domination”

On this occasion, the Pontiff blessed and imposed the pallium on 35 metropolitan archbishops, appointed over the last year. An “ancient and suggestive rite”, he explained, which expresses “the commitment of every Pastor – but also of every Christian – to take on his shoulders the brothers and sisters who are entrusted to him, like so many lambs of the Lord’s flock, and to sacrifice for them energy, time, effort, and even life, so that the Gospel reaches everyone”.
Subsequently, at the Angelus recited at midday with the approximately fifteen thousand pilgrims present in St. Peter’s Square and with those connected through the media, the Bishop of Rome returned to reflect on the testimony offered by the two patron saints. It, he explained, has ensured that “the Christian presence in history is aimed not at domination, but at service and reconciliation”.
