A 46-year-old Penal man who was wanted by Southern Division police was shot and killed by officers after he allegedly pointed a gun at them at a house on Pinto Road, Arima, on Thursday night.
Police said officers from various units, including the Home Invasion Team (HIT), went to the house on Punnette Avenue at around 10.50 pm and surrounded it.
The officers announced their presence, and a woman opened the door. On seeing the police, she ran back inside and up a staircase.
Officers entered the house, where they were confronted by Anthony Cornwall, also known as “Nomo”, who allegedly pointed a gun at them.
Two officers, one armed with a shotgun and the other with a Galil rifle, shot Cornwall.
Officers took Cornwall to the Arima General Hospital, where he was declared dead at 11.09 pm.
A black Jennings 9 mm pistol loaded with five rounds of 9 mm ammunition was seized.
The 30-year-old woman who was in the house at the time was detained by police.
On September 11, 2025, a Preventative Detention Order (PDO) was issued for Cornwall, stating that he was affiliated with a “radical Islamic group”.
“The detainee (Cornwall) and others are engaged in extortion, murder and trafficking in firearms.
“The detainee and others plan to imminently escalate expansion plans targeting rival gangs through public shootings and retaliatory killings using high-powered firearms,” the PDO stated.
