The fire that engulfed the cable yard at the Telecommunications Services of Trinidad and Tobago (TSTT) Laventille Work Centre has been extinguished, but monitoring remains in place to prevent a possible re-ignition.
In an update issued on Sunday, TSTT said the fire was reported at approximately 4.45 pm on Saturday at the facility.
The Trinidad and Tobago Fire Service responded to the incident, with firefighters working into the night to bring the blaze under control.
TSTT said the cause of the fire and the full extent of the damage remained under investigation.
The company thanked the Fire Service, the Trinidad and Tobago Electricity Commission (T&TEC), the Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA), the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) and other emergency responders and personnel who assisted with the response.
TSTT also expressed appreciation to Angostura Limited for its support during the incident.
The company said further updates would be provided as verified information became available.
The fire comes amid concerns about the security of the telecommunications provider’s infrastructure, with investigations expected to determine how the blaze started and the extent of the damage to the facility.
