The issue of voting on constitutional amendments cannot be viewed separately from the overall process of ongoing political dialogue. The opposition offered a platform for overcoming the institutional crisis. We are still waiting for the official statement of the parliamentary majority, or certain proposals that can lead to a final agreement, said today the head of the parliamentary group of the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS), Andrija Nikolić.
“If the idea of organizing a session of the Assembly on the subject of constitutional amendments is a step in the direction of a more serious consideration of the opposition’s demands, we are on the line and we are waiting to see what the future developments are in the political dialogue that has been started,” says Nikolić.
He pointed out that the President of the Assembly Mandić announced at the Collegium on behalf of the entire parliamentary majority that they want the political dialogue to have a public dimension during the discussion on constitutional amendments, which, he believes, is not always the best recommendation for the negotiation process that should result in an agreement.
“However, our positions are known and we expect the parliamentary majority to extend its hand to our outstretched hand. In the end, we do not want to prejudge the outcome of the negotiations, the government and the opposition, but we want to believe that the government is aware that Montenegro has a historic chance. As for us, we remain committed to dialogue and finding solutions that are in the interest of the state, all citizens and our European path,” said Nikolić.
