Within the framework of Seatrade Cruise Globalone of the most relevant events of the cruise industry in the world held in Miami, United States, the International Maritime University of Panama (UMIP) took a strategic step to the labor insertion of its students. A delegation led by the academic vice-rector, Roberto Aparicioheld a key meeting with representatives of BSM Cruise Services to manage new practical training places.
BSM Cruise Services, an international leader in the technical, nautical and hotel management of cruise ships, learned first-hand about the academic offerings of the UMIP. The Panamanian university highlighted its specialized programs in the training of deck, machine and electrical engineering officers, fundamental pillars for the operation of deep draft vessels.
During the meeting, the delegation highlighted the institutional capacity of the UMIP to deliver courses under the rigorous standards of the International Maritime Organization (IMO). This training includes basic, advanced and specialized levels, specifically designed to meet the complex demands of today’s cruise industry.
The focus of this alliance seeks to ensure that cadets not only receive theoretical instruction, but also access boarding and professional development opportunities in global fleets. The cooperation between academia and private industry reaffirms Panama’s position as a hub of qualified human resources for the international maritime sector.
