HAMILTON, Bermuda, Apr 10, CMC – The Bermuda government is urging the public to be vigilant while using social media platforms, as there has been an increase in fake artificial intelligence (AI) generated accounts and posts that are being used to mislead the public and potentially defraud unsuspecting individuals.
In a statement, the government said often, such social media posts or direct messages use the likenesses of local public figures and/or organizations to make their offerings appear more legitimate.

“We are seeing an increase of videos using the likeness of Premier David Burt and other Government officials. With the rise of artificial intelligence, fake videos, false representations, and messages are becoming more common,” said a Cabinet Office spokesperson, adding “unfortunately, individuals have been scammed in the past, and we urge all residents to exercise caution and remain vigilant when using the internet.
“If anyone receives the referenced fake AI post, they should report it directly on the platform or to the Bermuda Police Service,” the spokesperson said.
“As a reminder, no government official will ever use social media to promote an investment. The public is once again encouraged to only rely on official information and official advisories from the Government of Bermuda.”
