The chairman of Fólkaflokkurin, Beinir Johannesen, hopes that the draft government basis will be ready before Sunday.
After a short break Thursday and Friday, the negotiations to form a new government in the Faroe Islands continue on Saturday.
The negotiations were to begin at 10.30 Faroese time, writes the Faroese media dagur.fo. That means 8.30 in Greenland.
It is the chairman of the conservative party Fólkaflokkurin, Beinir Johannesen, who has been appointed to lead the government negotiations.
Since Monday, he has been negotiating with the bourgeois party Sambandsflokkurin and the social democratic party Javnaðarflokkurin.
Beinir Johannesen has previously said that he hopes to have a draft of a government basis ready before Easter Sunday.
– I think we are getting close to having a draft ready, he told the Faroese radio channel FM1 on Wednesday, adding:
– I believe that it is also important for the Faroe Islands that you have a broad government that can create lasting solutions that benefit the Faroese people.
There is a break again in the negotiations on Sunday and Monday. They start again on Tuesday.
Three-leaf clover has a clear majority
In the first instance, Beinir Johannesen has a deadline to form a new government by 10 April at the latest.
The elections to the Faroese parliament, the Lagtinget, took place on Thursday last week.
Here, Fólkafokkurin ended up as the largest party with 26.7 percent of the vote and nine mandates.
Sambandsflokkurin and Javnaðarflokkurin got seven and six mandates respectively.
Thus, the three parties, if they enter into a government collaboration, will have a majority of 24 mandates.
There are 33 politicians in the Lagtinget.
Until the Faroese elections, it was Javnaðarflokkurin that headed the government with outgoing leader Aksel V. Johannesen.
He is the uncle of 29-year-old Beinir Johannesen, who is set to become the Faroe Islands’ next team man.
Seven parties have won a seat in the Lagting after the election, where 89.5 percent of the more than 39,000 Faroese eligible to vote cast a vote.
