Saadawi gives the signal for the start of the school season from Jijel
Today, Monday, approximately 12 million students from the three educational levels (primary, middle, and secondary) enrolled in school, within the framework of the academic year (2026-2027).
In this context, the Minister of National Education, Mohamed Saghir Saadawi, gave the official start signal for school entry for 2026-2027 at the Martyr “Baloura Rabeh” School, Al-Shehna Municipality, (Jijel Province).
The minister was accompanied at the level of this educational institution, which includes 157 students, by the Governor of Jijel Province, Ahmed Makalati.
Saadawi: Providing all necessary conditions to receive approximately 12 million students
As a reminder, the Minister of National Education, Mohamed Saghir Saadawi, confirmed yesterday evening, Sunday, that all necessary conditions have been provided to receive approximately 12 million students in the three educational levels (primary, intermediate, and secondary).
When he appeared as a guest on Algerian television, Saadawi said, “The opening of the new school season will take place in the state of Jijel and in one of the educational institutions that was damaged by the fires and has been restored,” adding, “11 million and 974 thousand students will enroll (in school), that is, approximately 12 million, including one million and 100 thousand new students.”
Regarding what is new this year, the Minister stated that the start of the new school season will be accompanied by “a set of operations, including strengthening supervision to ensure stability and the effective management of educational institutions,” highlighting that “all the sector’s efforts are directed to the pedagogical aspect and to work by all means to improve schooling conditions in order to achieve good scientific, educational, and pedagogical achievement for students.”
The new school season will begin with “School Health Week, which includes a group of workshops and lessons presented by doctors and specialists to send the message that the health of students is very important,” stressing the need for parents to accompany the sector’s efforts in this context.
After noting the very good results and state of stability that the sector achieved during the previous season, he expressed his hope that the new season would be “the last stable season and better than the previous ones in terms of results,” noting that the process of opening scientific clubs and organizing various scientific competitions such as the Mathematics Olympiad and artificial intelligence “has shown the world that the educational system in Algeria is moving toward the better.”
The minister stated that 64,000 successful teachers in the recent recruitment competition will be inaugurated today, Monday, on the occasion of school entry.
The Minister praised the “positive” accompaniment of parents in the national education sector. The Minister pointed out “the great efforts made to protect students, similar to the joint programs with the Ministry of Youth and the Algerian Islamic Scouts,” and explained that a unified internal system for educational institutions had been drawn up for “greater discipline and a unified vision of how to manage them.”
In this context, he highlighted the importance of continuing work and coordination with security institutions to protect educational institutions and their surroundings from the scourge of drugs, adding that the unified system provides “an opportunity to take care of the student’s health.”
Regarding digitization, the Minister pointed out that the national education sector “has witnessed a qualitative leap, which is very important,” in addition to linking it to the national portal for digital services, noting that work is currently being done to “digitize the pedagogical notebook and the health notebook” for the student. He also pointed out that the sector’s interconnection operations with the sectors of the interior, local groups, higher education, and vocational training have allowed “the provision of the necessary information in a timely manner.”
This school entry falls under the directives of the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, given during the last meeting of the Council of Ministers, through which he stressed the necessity of optimal exploitation of the gains and advantages that have been achieved recently for the benefit of the education sector, in a way that guarantees successful and distinguished school entry.
In this regard, the President of the Republic directed the Minister of National Education, Mr. Mohamed Saghir Saadawi, to exploit these gains within the framework of systematic and deliberate management that achieves quality and performance, while emphasizing the importance of good investment in the large human resources that the sector now has and which has gained great experience since independence.
In anticipation of the new school season, the Ministry of Housing, Urbanism, City and Urban Development handed over 289 educational facilities, including 151 primary schools, 90 middle schools and 48 secondary schools.
In the same context, the Minister of National Education highlighted the sector’s commitment to careful preparation for school entry, including the educational institutions damaged by the fires that were recorded in a number of states in the east and center of the country.
In an inspection visit he made to Jijel Province, Mr. Saadawi reassured that the educational institutions affected by these fires would be ready and equipped to receive students during school entry.
In parallel with the material and organizational preparations, this school entry is characterized by a number of pedagogical developments, such as making special arrangements to accompany students who suffer from the autism spectrum, based on the existing coordination between the Ministries of National Education and National Solidarity, in order to ensure effective integration and sound educational achievement for these students.
As for the textbook, a number of measures have been taken to ensure its availability through educational institutions and points of sale, as more than 80 million books were provided at the national level.
One of the most important features of this new entry is the enhancement of human training, through successful professors in the recruitment competition based on certificates organized by the guardianship months ago.
It is noteworthy that, on the occasion of the start of the 2026-2027 school year, the National Education Sector, in coordination with the Ministry of Health, is organizing the second edition of the National School Health Week under the slogan “School Health…for a Safe, Healthy Future.” The topic “The relationship of trees to human health” was allocated to the primary stage, and “The impact of forest damage on public health” was allocated to the middle stage, while the topic “Protecting the forest environment is a health necessity” was chosen for the secondary stage.
