Prime Minister Dr. Godwin Friday said that his New Democratic Party (NDP) government is not an administration that is going to put money into people’s pockets one way and take it out another way.
“…we can do it. People are struggling already…I am not going to be a government that, on the one hand, put $1 in one pocket and take it out in the other,” Dr. Friday said in a radio appearance on April 10, 2026,as he referred to his administration’s policies and strategies.
He said during the 2025 election campaign, the NDP promised that if they were to form government, in a matter of weeks they would implement certain measures to help people financially, and they have done that.
“…I honoured the commitment that I made to people that said, ‘listen, we’re going to bring some relief, because I know you’re catching hell’, and that is why people supported us in the campaign,” Dr. Friday said, while noting that people wanted a government that would take their needs into account.
