Myanmar will develop its food safety system into a rapid-response network by integrating science-based digital technologies to align with ASEAN standards, according to discussions at the 9th Global Dairy Innovation Congress Asia 2026.
The Ministry of Health announced on 27 March that Professor Dr Ye Myint, Director-General of the Department of Food and Drug Administration (FDA), served as a speaker at the congress held in Singapore.
During the discussions, he highlighted the following statistics and plans: target population — about five million primary school children (ages five to nine) in Myanmar, accounting for about nine per cent of the population; budget allocation–6.92 per cent to educational development, which will be increased to 20 per cent within the next five years, including plans for school milk programmes.
The FDA is currently implementing food safety reforms in Myanmar, focusing on utilizing Minimum Compliance Points (MCP) and Risk-Based Inspection (RBI) to prioritize high-risk foods, such as dairy products, allocating resources more effectively, welcoming foreign investment, and encouraging partnerships to improve local capacity and nutritional sufficiency.
The long-term vision involves building a systematic framework to trace every food product throughout the supply chain, to respond rapidly to hazard warnings, and to execute immediate recalls when necessary, being expected to protect public health and increase public participation in food safety. — MT/ZN
