(KPL) On May 6, 2026, in Vientiane, Vice Minister of Public Works and Transport Detsongkham Thamavong announced that the Ministry of Public Works and Transport (MPWT) will implement 205 development projects in 2026 under the government’s approved State Investment Plan.
Speaking at the nationwide MPWT annual meeting, Mr. Detsongkham said the investment plan was approved under Ministry of Finance Notification No. 0400/MoF dated January 23, 2026.
The ministry’s total budget allocation for 2026 amounts to 987.33 billion kip in domestic funding and 2,186.73 billion kip in foreign funding. Domestic financing includes 687.33 billion kip from the regular state budget and 300 billion kip from the Road Fund.
According to the report, the projects are divided into five major funding categories.
The regular funding category includes 76 projects with a budget of 43 billion kip allocated directly by the MPWT. These include ongoing infrastructure projects, debt repayment obligations, and several new development proposals.
Under the specific target funding category, 24 projects have been allocated 38.57 billion kip by the Ministry of Finance to support ongoing works, debt settlement, and newly proposed projects.
The government has also allocated 51.35 billion kip for 32 landslide prevention projects aimed at improving road safety and protecting transport infrastructure in disaster-prone areas.
Meanwhile, 50 projects will be financed through Official Development Assistance (ODA), counterpart funding, and foreign investment cooperation. These projects account for the largest share of foreign financing, totaling more than 2.18 trillion kip.
Another 22 projects will be implemented under revenue-expenditure balancing mechanisms and other investment sources, with a combined budget of 39.27 billion kip.
In addition to the approved projects, the government has launched a special pilot project for the rehabilitation and repair of National Road No. 9. The project has been allocated 500 billion kip in domestic investment funding, with the Ministry of Finance serving as the principal budget provider.
The ministry said the 2026 investment plan is intended to strengthen national transport infrastructure, improve connectivity, support economic growth, and enhance public services across the country.
