(KPL) On May 6, 2026, in Vientiane, the National Blood Institute of the Lao Red Cross organized a blood donation campaign to mark the 163rd anniversary of World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day.
The event was held at Lao-ITECC Shopping Center under the slogan “Keeping Humanity Alive – Working Together for Humanity.”
The ceremony was chaired by Khamlavan Chanthalavan and attended by representatives from relevant sectors, students, and youth volunteers.
Speaking at the event, Khamchan Khammanivong said the campaign aims to encourage more people to participate in voluntary blood donation to help save lives.
Organizers expected at least 200 donors to participate in the drive. The donated blood will support patients requiring emergency transfusions, including those undergoing surgery, victims of road accidents, patients with chronic blood disorders, and cancer patients.
Mr. Khamchan stressed that every drop of donated blood is valuable and can help save lives. He noted that all donated blood undergoes laboratory testing and screening for blood-borne diseases before being distributed to hospitals.
He also emphasized the humanitarian role of the Lao Red Cross, stating that blood is provided free of charge to underprivileged patients who are unable to afford medical treatment costs.
To maintain blood transfusion services nationwide, the National Blood Institute receives financial support from the government and international partner organizations. In addition, a revolving service fee of 70,000 kip per blood bag is collected to help cover processing, testing, and equipment expenses and ensure a stable blood supply system.
