(KPL) On May 6, 2026, in Vientiane, a pesticide residue monitoring campaign was conducted at Lao Aussie Fresh Market, with laboratory results confirming that vegetables sold at the market are safe for consumers.
The testing was carried out by the Department of Agriculture in cooperation with the Vientiane Agriculture and Environment Department and relevant local authorities as part of efforts to strengthen food safety and public confidence in fresh produce sold in the capital.
According to officials, specialists from the Plant Protection Center and the Nonevai Laboratory conducted on-site testing of vegetables supplied by vendors during the launch of the campaign. The results showed that all tested samples were free from dangerous pesticide residues.
Authorities also highlighted broader monitoring results from recent inspections of more than 200 vegetable samples collected from Vientiane and several provinces. Of these, 102 samples were found completely free of pesticide residues, while 98 samples contained only minimal residue levels that were still considered safe for human consumption.
Officials said the findings confirm that clean agriculture practices are improving in the capital and surrounding areas, supported by 129 clean production groups engaged in rice, vegetables, and organic farming.
The Department of Agriculture stated that the results reinforce consumer confidence in the safety of products sold at the Lao Aussie Fresh Market and demonstrate ongoing progress in strengthening food quality control systems nationwide.
