rosecutors demanded on Thursday the death penalty for a teenager accused of possessing a large quantity of drugs, during a trial at Medan District Court in North Sumatra.
Daniel Surya Partogi Aritonang from the Belawan Prosecutor’s Office demanded the death penalty for Aditya Ramdani, 19, because he was the main courier, having in his possession 10 kilograms of sabu (methamphetamine), 23,000 ecstasy pills and 150 happy five pills.
”The prosecution demands the court sentence defendant Aditya Ramdani, also known as Adit, to death,” he said during a trial hearing, which Aditya attended virtually.
In the same hearing, Daniel also demanded a 15-year prison term for another defendant in the case, Iman Saro Harefa. The prosecutor also demanded a fine of Rp 1 billion (US$57,676) or 190 days extra incarceration in lieu of payment.
Daniel said he demanded a lighter punishment for Iman because he was only asked by Adit to distribute the drugs. Iman also did not have many drugs in his possession when he was arrested.
Both defendants are accused under Article 114 clause 2 in conjunction with Article 132 clause 1 of Law No. 35/2009 on narcotics, as well as related articles in the 2023 Criminal Code.
Presiding Judge Eliyurita said the defendants could present their defense in the next hearing.
