The Montecristi Prosecutor’s Office summoned Pastor Carlos Peña Batista on April 20 to answer for accusations of blackmail, extortion, defamation and insult, following a complaint filed against him by the company Energía 2000, SA.
Prosecutor Dinorah Liberato Rojas, through a summons, requires Peña’s appearance that day at 11:30 in the morning.
The accused must respond for the alleged violation of Law 53-07 on High Technology Crimes and Crimes and Law 61-32 on Expression and Dissemination of Thought.
The summons was executed by Minister José Miguel de la Cruz Plasencia, of the Special Traffic Court, at the request of the Conciliation Unit of said jurisdiction.
Origin of the complaint
According to the file, the events originated from a payment request made by an intermediary, who had threatened to disseminate information harmful to the company if it did not receive a large sum of money.
Following the company’s refusal to give in to pressure, Carlos Peña published audiovisual content on social networks making accusations that the complainant describes as “false and unsubstantiated” against the company and its shareholders.
Legal request
Energía 2000 has formally requested the Public Ministry to open an investigation and apply the sanctions provided for in current regulations.
These include prison sentences of up to five (5) years, as established in article 16 of Law 53-07.
