A new international partnership aimed at strengthening botanical research and plant conservation has been formalised between the Jardin Exotique de Monaco, the Museo Orto Botanico di Roma and Offroad Club Monaco.
The agreement was officially signed on April 30 by Monaco Mayor Georges Marsan during a ceremony attended by members of the Communal Council and representatives from the participating institutions.
Long recognised as one of Monaco’s landmark attractions, the Jardin Exotique has also built an international reputation as a scientific and research centre specialising in succulent plants. Through its Botanical Centre, the garden is already part of a wider international network focused on protecting plant biodiversity and advancing botanical knowledge.
The newly signed agreement is designed to deepen cooperation between Monaco and Rome through exchanges of plant collections, scientific expertise and collaborative work between research teams. Specific projects and initiatives linked to the partnership are expected to be developed progressively over time.
City officials described the agreement as an important step forward for both institutions, with the partnership expected to provide new opportunities for expansion, research development and knowledge-sharing between Monaco and the Italian capital.
The collaboration was facilitated in part through the involvement of Massimiliano Mordenti, who helped connect the two botanical institutions. Erminia Fezia Mordenti, co-founder of Offroad Club Monaco, was also present at the signing ceremony.
The agreement further reinforces the Jardin Exotique’s role not simply as a tourist destination, but as an active scientific institution engaged in the preservation of global plant life and ecological research.
A second signing ceremony linked to the trilateral partnership is scheduled to take place on 19 May in Rome at the Museo Orto Botanico di Roma.
