MIRI (May 1): The longstanding collaboration between Dynasty Hotel and the Social Welfare Department (JKM), spanning more than two decades, has been commended as a model of consistent and meaningful corporate social responsibility (CSR).
Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Minister Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah described the partnership as a shining example of sustained commitment to supporting vulnerable communities.
Speaking at the Sejambak Kasih Gawai ceremony here yesterday, she praised the hotel, led by managing director Tony Pui, for their unwavering dedication to the welfare of the underprivileged.
“This has been going on for 24 years — not just once but three times annually — during Chinese New Year, Hari Raya Aidilfitri, and Gawai Dayak,” she said.
Fatimah noted that the initiative, which began 26 years ago before formal collaboration with JKM, has consistently reached communities in need.
This year alone, approximately 150 recipients received hampers containing essential food items such as rice, chicken and other basic provisions.
“Over 24 years, with distributions held three times, the cumulative impact is significant. This represents a remarkable contribution to the community,” she said.
She also commended the hotel’s humble approach in carrying out its charitable work, noting that its management has never sought public recognition.
Beyond festive aid distributions, she highlighted Dynasty Hotel’s wider CSR initiatives, including the annual Dynasty Run which channels proceeds towards assisting communities in and around Miri.
She encouraged the public and corporate sector to support the event as the funds raised will go towards helping communities in Miri.
Fatimah expressed appreciation on behalf of both the ministry and beneficiaries, describing the programme as impactful and carried out with sincerity and consistency.
The hamper distribution programme forms part of JKM’s ongoing efforts to support vulnerable groups, with Dynasty Hotel’s partnership regarded as one of the longest-running private sector CSR collaborations in the Miri region.
