AN URGENT SAFE sex warning has been issued on the social media platform of the Ministry of Health.
In the post, the ministry’s Chief Health Promotion Officer Shanika John-Trent urged vigilance, particularly for those who have sex with someone other than their partner. The warning comes at the June 26- July 7 high point of VincyMas 2026.
John-Trent said that the ministry continues to see an increase in Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) positive cases in St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) among women primarily between 25 to 29 years of age, and predominantly men 60 years and older.
She added that females are the ones who are still coming forward for testing, as they rank higher, but the ministry is still seeing a lot of the males who are showing up positive within that age group.
“For those younger persons, we do understand that you get creative and that you get innovative with your sex practices, but we’re asking you to remember that HIV and AIDS are still possible, and you cannot tell by looking if somebody is HIV positive.”
