The Prime Minister Christian Mickoski stated that he has nothing against limiting the possibility of MPs to have dual citizenship, if it is in accordance with The Constitution and laws, reported MIA.
He added that he supports extending the restriction to the executive power, as well as to the president of the state, if legal and constitutional experts assess that there are no obstacles to this.
– I do not have dual citizenship, nor do I intend to have another citizenship. My citizenship is Macedonian – said Mickoski, answering a journalist’s question after inspecting the reconstruction of Universal hall.
The president Gordana Siljanovska-Davkovawho is a professor of constitutional law, said today that dual citizenship can be limited by law, but that such a decision should not apply only to the deputies, but also to the ministers and the president of the country.
Recently in The Assembly of MacedoniaMPs from the ruling coalition submitted a bill that would prevent MPs from having dual citizenship.
Then, SDSM submitted its own proposal, with which it is requested that the restriction be extended to the ministers and deputy prime ministers and to come into effect immediately.
