Mickoski: I do not expect an improvement in relations with Bulgaria

As the president of the Macedonian government, we will stick to what represents our roots, we will stick to the line of Macedonian identity and we will not deviate from that, said Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski, at today’s event commemorating 123 years since the death of the Macedonian revolutionary and freedom fighter Gotse Delchev.

When asked what he expects from the new Bulgarian government, Mickoski says that he does not expect significant changes, but that the Macedonian government is ready for talks in which arguments from both sides will be confronted.

“If you ask me for my personal opinion, I will give you my personal opinion – I do not expect the atmosphere to change at all, on the contrary, I expect that same atmosphere to heat up because we still have political and social structures at home that are ready to kneel before the Bulgarian authorities and be the soft tissue of Macedonian foreign policy. As long as there are such political structures and social forces, I do not expect a change in the attitude of our eastern neighbor. But we as a government are always ready for bilateral, multilateral talks and to face our arguments and of course those arguments that will prevail, we are ready to accept them just as we expect the opposite side to accept our arguments if they prevail”, said Mickoski.

According to the Prime Minister. Macedonian people in the 21st century also face problems with recognition of identity and language.

When asked by a journalist whether the government is preparing to include Bulgarians in the Constitution, as the opposition SDSM claims these days, Mickoski said that some questions do not deserve an answer.

“So is this question. I think I answered this question in the opening part of my address today.”

In his opening address, which he gave after the solemn service on the occasion of the 123rd anniversary of the death of Gotse Delchev, Prime Minister Mickoski said that there are still member countries of the European Union that do not respect and do not implement the values of the Macedonian revolutionary.

“We have such countries that deny the identity of the Macedonian great Gotse Delchev and the Macedonian centuries-old identity. In the 21st century, the Macedonian people are still facing these challenges that they should not be facing. Instead of fighting for a common and better future, we are opening issues from the past, and some of them have roots in the Middle Ages. We as a government will persist in what represents our roots, we will stay on the line of the Macedonian identity. That is the red line and there is not even a millimeter let’s step down”, said the prime minister after the service.
