Madrid/The Cuban pianist, composer, arranger and singer Meme Solís returns to the Spanish stage with Deep rootsa concert conceived as a tribute to Olga Guillot, one of the fundamental voices of Cuban bolero. The event will be at the Ateneo de Madrid and will feature Alina Sánchez, Yaima Sáez and the Dominican singer Diomary La Mala as guest artists.
The tribute has a special meaning in Solís’ career. Born in Mayajigua, in the former province of Las Villas, José Manuel Solís began his musical studies at the age of six in Santa Clara and precisely one of his first professional jobs was as a pianist accompanying Olga Guillot at the Cloris theater in that city. Later he moved to Havana, where he developed a career closely linked to some of the great voices of Cuban song.
His artistic history includes a fruitful collaboration with Elena Burke, with whom he worked for five years and recorded Burke sings. Together with Luis García he also created the radio program alone with youfrom Radio Progreso, which remained on the air for eight years. Later, his quartet Los Meme would arrive, a group that achieved enormous popularity in Cuba and turned Solís into one of the essential names of filin and Cuban romantic songs.
The presence of Diomary La Mala precisely reinforces the link between the concert and the bolero. The Dominican performer has previously shared the stage with Solís and participated in Miami in the show for the 65th anniversary of Los Meme, along with artists such as Silvana Di Lorenzo, Malena Burke and Héctor Téllez Jr.
Under the motto “Music is also memory”, Deep roots Thus, it proposes a journey through a sentimental and musical tradition that unites several generations of Cuban performers. Tickets for the December 19 performance are now on sale.
