Within that context, Carranza explained to this newspaper that, in fact, as several sources told EL TIEMPO, there were trips by the president to private homes where he stayed for security reasons.
“When there were intelligence reports about a plan or attack against him, the president moved to those houses. For example, when the United States took away the anti-drone system and weapons to protect Casa de Nariño, he moved to one of those houses due to some type of risk and also when the discovery of a mortar that, apparently, was going to be used against him was reported.”.
When this newspaper asked him about the security alert that, according to senior DNI officials, reached that entity because Petro supposedly frequented a property in the south of Bogotá where a local gang operated, the criminal lawyer assured: “The former president says that he would have had no problem staying in the south of the capital. However, that never happened.”
Carranza also stated that if The former president frequented the Quinta Paredes sector—as two former Petro government officials told this newspaper—he went to visit a relative who lives in that area and never gave the order to reduce his security scheme.
“What happened was that the scheme was opened and distributed throughout the area because it could not all remain in front of a single house.”he explained.
