CALAMBA CITY, Laguna – The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has approved a request for medical assistance for children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) in Laguna province, Gov. Sol Aragones announced on Wednesday.
In a post on her official Facebook page, Aragones shared that DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian granted the request following their recent meeting.
”Here’s my good news for you, our request has been approved!” she said in Filipino, adding that the program aims to bring relief and hope to parents facing daily challenges in caring for their children with ASD.
Aragones cited the provincial government’s recognition of the emotional and financial burdens on families, particularly mothers, who witness their children’s conditions firsthand.
The governor said she expects to expand access to medical support and enhance coordination between the provincial government and national agencies following Laguna’s ongoing commitment to health and welfare programs for vulnerable sectors.
The Department of Health recorded 26,469 individuals with autism across various municipalities in Laguna, as of 2023.
