Given the high proportion of accidents, injuries and deaths of motorcyclists in the Dominican Republic, the Dominican Road Mobility Foundation (Movido) and Motores del Sur formalized an alliance to promote road safety with the “Manamoto (National Action Table with Motorcyclists)” initiative, which has the purpose of integrating drivers in community and educational actions.
This project is aimed at the generalization of concrete solutions to the challenges of traffic safety in the country. In order to train responsible motorcyclists, reduce risk behaviors and implement social impact programs, providing certifications, educational campaigns and community events.
During a conversation held at the LISTÍN DIARIO facilities with the media’s director, Miguel Franjul, the president of Movido and general coordinator of the RD Road Coalition, Miguel Jiménez, explained that this project will be based on action tables where they will sit with motorcyclists to raise awareness and provide them with continuous education over a period of four years.
Likewise, they will analyze real problems and propose applicable solutions. “What we see at a social level is not what the institutions present,” said Jiménez.
This training will begin on April 18 in the chapter house of the Boca Chica mayor’s office with the participation of 150 motorcyclists. In addition, it will be implemented in the most vulnerable areas such as San Cristóbal.
The target audience for this project will be urban motorcyclists, motoconchistas, recreational motorcyclists, drivers of digital platforms, companies in the sector, local authorities and institutions linked to mobility.
Work scheme
Jiménez explained within the work outline, tables classified into: culture, protection, education, awareness and oversight.
Within the cultural topic, drivers will look for solutions among themselves in the face of improper actions committed in day-to-day driving. With the aim of promoting responsible driving practices and encouraging compliance with traffic regulations.
“They will be given the opportunity to express themselves, with the solutions that they understand so that they feel part of it. We already have the guidelines laid out, what we are going to do is help them understand them,” said Claudio Genao, director of social actions with motorcyclists of the Movido foundation, known as Claudio on a motorcycle.
Likewise, Motores del Sur will certify a road commitment for those who are interested in buying a motorcycle to take their word of being responsible with their driving and also with the formation of the foundation.
This company is committed to incorporating road safety education as an essential component to contribute to the preservation of lives.
“We started bringing motorcycles and from the beginning we realized that for the business to be sustainable, there really had to be education… For this to be sustainable, the person who buys a motorcycle from me has to be an educated person,” explained Peter Jazmín, commercial director of motors of the south.
Jazmín argued that 40% of the motorcycles she sells are work motorcycles (motoconchos, motoubers, among others). Therefore, according to your analysis, if that sector is the one that needs education, you understand that in order for your business to be profitable, you must motivate education.
