Police arrested a 39-year-old man on April 15, three days after he was accused of fatally shooting and assaulting his ex-wife at her hair salon in Por Senchey district, authorities said.
The suspect, identified as Thuok Chea, was apprehended on April 15 in a forested area of Prey Chhor district, Kampong Cham province. The arrest took place after a joint operation was launched earlier that day by the Phnom Penh municipal police and the Kampong Cham provincial police.
According to police, the arrest was carried out under direct orders from senior officials of the Phnom Penh Municipal Police, including Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Choun Narin and other high-ranking officers overseeing criminal investigations.
The suspect is accused of killing 22-year-old Chun Teu at her hair salon in Tuol Pongro market, Sangkat Chaom Chau I, Por Senchey district, on April 12, three days before his arrest.
Authorities said he allegedly used a handgun, pursuing and fatally assaulting the victim. Police said the couple had separated about a month earlier after ongoing domestic disputes. Following his arrest, the suspect was transferred to court for further legal proceedings.
