A middle-aged man has died in a Cork house fire.
The blaze was detected in a property in the village of Rylane in north Cork at lunchtime on Thursday.
Gardaí and units of Cork Fire Brigade were at the scene within minutes after it is understood neighbours spotted the blaze and raised the alarm shortly before 1pm.
A 56 year old male occupant of the house was found unresponsive and was treated at the scene.
He lived alone at the property.
However, he was pronounced dead before he could be transferred to Cork University Hospital (CUH).
The Office of the State Pathologist and a post mortem examination is now scheduled to be conducted.
It is understood the initial indications are that the fire was accidental and is not suspicious in nature.
A file will be prepared for the Cork Coroner with an inquest expected to be held next year.
A full forensic examination of the property will be conducted to try to determine the precise cause of the fire.
