Lukashenko approves appointment of two district heads

MINSK, 11 June (BelTA) – Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko approved the appointment of the heads of Petrikov District and Oshmyany District on 11 June, BelTA has learned.

Yevgeny Shkrobot has been approved for the position of Chairman of the Petrikov District Executive Committee. Until now, he served as First Deputy Chairman and Head of the Agriculture and Food Department of the Zhitkovichi District Executive Committee.

The Oshmyany District Executive Committee will be headed by Andrei Klyshevsky. Previously, he held the position of Deputy Chairman of the Oshmyany District Executive Committee, overseeing construction and housing and utilities services.

When making personnel decisions, the head of state set tasks for local authorities. Addressing Yevgeny Shkrobot, Aleksandr Lukashenko noted that he had visited the Petrikov District more than once, and that the development of Polesie as a whole traditionally receives significant attention. Therefore, the new head will, in effect, “remain in full view” of the president. “As for Petrikov District, I have been there more than once. I closely observe the people of Polesie and the development of the region. It used to be a painful issue for me. Now I am glad that people there live more or less decently,” the Belarusian leader emphasized.

He recalled that the former head of Petrikov District had been appointed chairman of the Mozyr District Executive Committee. In this regard, Aleksandr Lukashenko stressed that considerable work had been done in Petrikov District, and therefore the new head is not coming to an empty place. “You are taking over a district that has already proven itself. So you won’t have time to relax, and the expectations will be much higher and stricter than in Zhitkovichi. You have experience, the districts are nearby, the land is roughly the same. Petrikov is a very decent town, a miners’ town, and we will have to continue developing it,” he said. “Despite everything, there is plenty of work in Petrikov, and there are opportunities to prove yourself. So I am not promising you an easy life there.”

The head of state recalled that he had recently visited Petrikov District during a major trip to the south of the country, where he also reviewed the progress of spring sowing. “Both Petrikov and Zhitkovichi did a good job with sowing this year, and the weather helped. The soil there is mostly sandy, especially in Petrikov, but the rains supported the crops. If you applied enough mineral fertilizers and organic matter to those soils, the harvest should be good. But we will see in the autumn, we count the chicks in the fall,” the president added.

Addressing Andrei Klyshevsky, Aleksandr Lukashenko noted that Oshmyany District is one of the regions located far from the regional center. Because of this, senior officials from the region rarely visit such remote areas. He added that this problem exists in all Belarusian regions, which is why the performance of district executive committee heads is especially important in these territories. “So make sure you stay active there, and tell your neighbors [meaning heads of the neighboring districts] that although these districts are far from Grodno, they must not be worse than the areas directly surrounding Grodno and Grodno District,” the head of state stressed.

The president recalled his recent trip to Grodno Oblast, where he reviewed the state of the agricultural sector. “Things there are going quite well, decently. I flew over those districts and took a look: the prospects for the harvest are very good,” he said. “And you were asking for rain… In Oshmyany you’ll have enough rain, sometimes even more than enough. But for you [in Oshmyany District], it will certainly be beneficial.”
