Mothers dropping off their sons at ASJA Boys’ College in San Fernando yesterday were pleasantly surprised when they were handed red roses, in an early celebration of Mothers’ Day.
Led by their principal, Faeid Ali, the boys lined the pavement outside the school from 7am, handing out dozens of roses to females.
The gesture, Ali said, was two-fold – to show appreciation to mothers and a lesson to the young men.
He said, “Developing the character of our young men is a central pillar at ASJA Boys’ College and great effort goes into shaping our young men into the kind of citizen, father and husband we need. It is for this reason the college is known for its high level of disciplined, respectful, and gentlemanly students.”
Ali said the distribution of roses was a message to the young men to continue showing love and appreciation to their mothers.
And the mummies were pleased. “What a thoughtful gesture, this brightened up my day,” a mother responded. Photographs of the roses were also posted to social media, with women thanking ASJA Boys’ College for the ‘beautiful surprise’.
Female teachers were also greeted with red roses as they arrived for classes on Monday.
