It all started with a bet. At the beginning of April, in a video that quickly became viral on social networks, Kotiga admitted that he had made a mistake in his assessment – he claimed that the national team of Bosnia and Herzegovina would not qualify for the World Cup. The stake was clear: if it does happen, he will do a quiz for Oslobodjenje.ba.
That’s exactly what happened.
But what started as a casual bet, on Oslobodjenje.ba has a completely different epilogue. A good bet, in this case, turned into even better content.
The online quiz “Unleash your knowledge with Dean Kotig” actually stems from that bet, which from May 15th becomes a permanent weekly stop for everyone who wants to check how much they really know.
It is an interactive format that combines knowledge, logic and curiosity, through questions from a wide variety of fields – from history, geography, art and science to sports, popular culture and everyday interesting things.
In a few short answers, Kotiga has already given enough reason to take the quiz seriously – or at least seriously fun:
Have you ever lost a bet this big and do you know what you are getting yourself into??
Kotiga: I don’t know. Well I rarely bet so I don’t know. I don’t remember the last time I bet. I really rarely bet, and I don’t know what I’m getting myself into, but all the more interesting. I love it when people don’t know what they’re getting into. When you know what you’re getting yourself into, it’s boring.
What can the readers of Oslobođenja expect from you?
Kotiga: I can expect a weekly quiz. I hope with some lively interesting questions. I can expect to keep up with the world a bit through those questions. We will try to be current as much as possible. I can expect one weekly distraction where they’ll spend ten minutes feeling smart and learning something. And they can expect that it will also be a good preparation for the next quizzes. Well, maybe when they go somewhere for a quiz, they’ll say “well, I learned that thanks to Kotiga’s quiz at Oslobođenje.”
What is the most unnecessary information you know?
Kotiga: What’s your name!
Burek or kebabs?
Kotiga: Kebabs.
How many quizzers does it take to change a light bulb?
Kotiga: I don’t know if there is an answer, but we know how many surrealists need to change a light bulb. Do you know how much?
How much?
Kotiga: One fish.
Have a question that doesn’t have an answer?
Kotiga: What is the meaning of life?
Is it better to know that you don’t know or not to know that you know?
Kotiga: Interesting question, interesting question. It’s better not to know that you know, it’s easier, more pleasant and more comfortable. Knowing that you don’t know is quite problematic because what you don’t know bothers and burdens you. And if you don’t know how to know, you’re light as a feather.
You or ChatGPT, who goes home with the prize?
Kotiga: I think there are still people going home with the prize and I think it will remain so, because some things that are human are really irreplaceable as such and, of course, ChatGPT can cover something. I mean, any of these AIs, but we’re where we are because we’re human and they’re not. ChatGPT didn’t invent people, we invented it. So I think the championship goes to the people.
Do you have something to say to readers who think they know everything?
Kotiga: Absolutely. Play my quiz and I hope I can convince you of that.
And finally – one fact that you know and makes you happy.
Kotiga: Where does the word orchid come from? And if you don’t know, do your research. That’s it.
