Reporters Without Borders responded to Prime Minister Edi Rama regarding their report on media freedom, where Albania was ranked 83rd, marking a drop of three points compared to a year ago.

In response, Reporters Without Borders underlines that Albania’s ranking in 83rd place reflects political attacks, abuse of law enforcement bodies, low transparency and threats to journalists.

“Prime Minister Edi Rama, we measure media freedom, not government communication. Albania’s ranking in 83rd place (-3) in the 2026 Index reflects political attacks, abuse of law enforcement bodies, low media transparency and threats to journalists,” says the reaction of Reporters ka Kufij.

This statement came after an earlier post by Prime Minister Edi Rama, who pointed out a positive evaluation of the Agency for Media and Information in a SIGMA-OECD report, while ironically mentioning “slander” that, according to him, was made by all 4 sides from inside and outside the country.

“Until yesterday, they bombarded it and muddied it from all four sides, some from the inside and some from the outside, putting the stamp and wasting ink in vain, for their independent reports not only from the government, but also from the facts… But the truth is different, very different, because this Agency for Media and Information of the government, baptized at its birth with the bombs and mud of the fourth power, played a completely different role, and provided us with quality service of the media and the public of course.

And I’m not saying that anymore. Not even the government of a country that is targeted regularly, and not infrequently at all, for the freedom of the press. This is what the SIGMA-OECD report says, one of those international institutional sources whose strong reputation is built on respect for facts, not on perceptions, on professional analysis, not on arbitrary prejudices, on objective evaluations of truths, not on subjective amplifications of half-truths!”Rama wrote.
