MIRI (June 4): Long Bedian, a Kayan village in Telang Usan, has recorded significant development and progress over the past 80 years since its establishment, emerging as one of the largest longhouses in the Telang Usan constituency, said Dato Dennis Ngau.
The Telang Usan assemblyman said the village’s achievements should not be measured solely by its population growth or physical development, but also by its transformation from a small settlement into a sub-district centre under the Telang Usan district administration since 2014.
“The government has been able to implement various development initiatives in this longhouse due to the strong and continuous support of residents, first under Barisan Nasional (BN) and now under Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS),” he said when officiating at Long Bedian’s 80th anniversary celebration on Monday night.
Dennis attributed the village’s achievements to the dedication, sacrifice and commitment of both past and present longhouse leaders.
He said Long Bedian’s progress also serves as a clear testament to the unity, consensus and close cooperation among residents, who have continuously worked together to develop their community.
About 800 people attended the celebration.
Also present were political secretary to Premier of Sarawak Dominic Nyurang Ajang and Long Bedian headman Leslie Lah.
