In Kyiv, an unidentified man opened fire on passers-by, killing several people before taking refuge in a shop, where he held hostages. The attacker was neutralized.

“The gunman in Kyiv was neutralized during the arrest operation. A KORD police special unit assaulted the shop where the perpetrator was located. The man had taken people hostage and opened fire on police officers during the arrest. Earlier, negotiators had attempted to establish contact with him,” wrote Ukraine’s Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko on Telegram.
It is known that five people were killed in the incident, and ten others were injured. “The victims were civilians, ordinary people,” emphasized the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, in a statement.
“All circumstances are being clarified […] I extend my condolences to the families and loved ones,”
he wrote on social media.
According to the president, the injured were taken to hospital with wounds and injuries. “All are receiving the necessary assistance. Four hostages were successfully rescued,” he added.
