King Charles III. will become the first monarch in the thousand-year-old British monarchy to publicly disclose details of his personal tax payments. Buckingham Palace is expected to publish them today along with the annual financial reports of the royal household, and the disclosure was presented a few days ago as part of efforts to increase the transparency of the royal finances and for a “broader understanding of the responsibilities” of the monarchy. The British public is increasingly questioning the costs of the monarchy, the extent of the royal family’s assets and the legitimacy of some of its privileges.
