The Icelandic airport Keflavik is starting this year with a billion-dollar project that will connect the two terminal buildings in the north and south.
Last year was the eastern wing of Keflavik airport opened – an investment of over DKK 1.6 billion. Now it concerns the construction of a central connecting building, which costs DKK 1.15 billion, writes the Icelandic media Iceland Review.
According to the media, the new central hub at the airport will measure almost 27,000 square meters, and while construction is ongoing, expected to be completed in 2031, a temporary corridor must be established so that passengers have access to the two terminal buildings.
– The expansion follows the opening of the eastern wing last February, which increased terminal space by 30 percent at a cost of ISK 30 billion (DKK 1.6 billion). A separate extension of the southern building, known as Parking Ten, at a cost of 3.6 billion ISK (DKK 190 million), is expected to open next month, writes the Icelandic online media.
In January of this year alone, the airport served 443,492 passengers.
