Six suspected drug dealers, including citizens of Great Britain and Italy, were arrested on Wednesday in Pag, the Minister of the Interior confirmed on Thursday. Davor Bozinović.
“Another drug trafficking ring has been broken up, and the suspects have been arrested in a coordinated action by the Croatian police. We continue to systematically and decisively suppress drug-related crime and protect the safety of citizens,” Minister of the Interior Davor Božinović announced on his X profile.
“This year, in the first five months, the Croatian police submitted 1,450 reports for criminal offenses of drug abuse. They arrested 506 individuals, i.e. 35 percent more than in the same period of the first five months last year,” said Božinović in a statement to reporters after a conference on misdemeanor law at the Zagreb Faculty of Law.
He added that these data show that the police are very dedicated to their work and that the action in Pag is precisely the result of that work in which the police first detect and then arrest foreign drug dealers who came to Croatia to take advantage of the summer period with many tourists.
Božinović also said that the increase in the number of arrests and prosecuted crimes is a reason for satisfaction, despite the fact that drugs are more available than ever before throughout Europe.
“What is our success, the success of our work, is that there are no open drug scenes in Croatia,” said Božinović, adding that the goal is to break the principals, but also that street dealers “will not fare well.”
According to police data, during the arrest, 168.8 grams of marijuana, 107.3 grams of cocaine, 44.1 grams of ketamine, 66.77 grams of MDMA, 391 tablets of MDMA and 15 pieces of LSD were found.
Five arrested Britons and one Italian were handed over to the detention supervisor with criminal charges.
As we have unofficially learned, the police have been secretly following this group of foreign guests for some time. It is suspected that during the summer they intended to resell drugs on Zrć.
