He former Attorney General of the RepublicJean Alain Rodríguez, attacked this Wednesday against the judicial process against him, denouncing that the report used to question his management is “tampered with and damaged.”
Rodríguez suggested that these documents come from institutions that lack credit and that they are part of a strategy of political persecution.
The former official stated that even the United States government has documented the misuse of federal funds in order to attack the opposition in the Dominican Republic.
“I’m not saying it, the American government has already made it official: they misused those funds to attack the opposition. Why don’t they talk about the other cases of alleged corruption in this government? “They remain silent,” he questioned.
Heritage and legal origin
Regarding the allegations regarding his assets, Rodríguez maintained that it has already been demonstrated before a judge, through technical expert reports, that his assets have a lawful origin.
We already proved that all the assets were legal. “Citizens deserve a response to so many slanders,” he said.
Criticism of the “elephant accusation”
The former attorney described as “infamy” the version that his technical defense is responsible for delaying the process.
He explained that the trial has not formally begun, despite the fact that the case dates back to August 2020, due to deficiencies of the case itself. Public Ministry (MP).
He denounced that the prosecutors in charge were his subordinates and maintain a “declared public enmity” with him, which he considers cause for annulment.
He criticized the “elephant” indictment of more than 12,000 pages and 666,000 files, which included defective hard drives that the judge ordered to be returned.
He claimed that he was prevented from accessing digital evidence during his detention, having to wait six months for judicial authorization to use a computer.
“Fear of the law”
Rodríguez maintained that the constant resubmissions of the hearings have not been requested by his defense, but are the result of the prosecution body’s requests to merge files.
He criticized that the Public Ministry took two years for an investigation that legally should last three months, allowing procedural extensions to expire.
“The Public Ministry has to adapt to the law and not the judges to the Public Ministry,” argued the former attorney.
