The municipality of Izola will take advantage of the legislative innovation and will now also charge tourist tax to passenger ships. With flat-rate billing based on the number of passengers, they want to ensure that ship tourism is also included in the financing of the local environment, the changes are explained at the municipality.
From the amended decree on the tourist tax, which was approved by the Izola municipal councilors on Friday, it is clear that the changes apply to ships that moor or anchor in the Izola waters and allow passengers to disembark.
The amount of the fee will be determined as a flat rate based on the ship’s capacity. The maximum daily amounts will be from 200 euros for ships with up to 200 passengers to 3,200 euros for ships with more than 3,001 passengers.
The collected funds will be used in their entirety. “They are used for contents related to the development of tourism, the arrangement of public areas and infrastructure and promotion, as well as other activities that improve the quality of living and the tourist offer of the place,” said the Izola municipality.
Local merchants, restaurateurs and providers in the countryside can also expect a larger visit.
Larger passenger ships have not yet anchored in the Izola area. In order to establish such a regime in practice, it will be necessary to obtain all the required consents beforehand, create safety plans and appropriate professional bases and a maritime study. “The goal of the municipality is that the visit of passenger ships takes place in an orderly and balanced manner with the interests of the local community,” they emphasized.
