Autonomous delivery, digitization and new logistics models herald changes that Pošta Slovenije is already testing in practice
Will robots and drones soon deliver packages? Imagine ordering a package in the evening, and the next morning a small autonomous robot brings it to your door. Such an experience is much closer than we might imagine. The technology, which until recently was part of prototypes and test environments, is gradually approaching everyday use. The rapid growth of online commerce and higher user expectations are accelerating the development of solutions that promise faster, more flexible and more environmentally friendly delivery.
The first tests already show how such solutions could work in practice. Delivery with autonomous robots promises quieter traffic, a less congested environment and greater flexibility. The development is still accompanied by regulatory and infrastructural challenges, but the direction remains clear: logistics is becoming digitally supported, connected and increasingly automated.

From tests to concrete solutions
Pošta Slovenije is also actively involved in this development, testing new technologies and gradually incorporating them into its operations. As one of the three European postal operators, Pošta Slovenije participates in the TRACE project, which connects more than 20 partners from approximately ten European countries and is one of the most prominent development projects in the field of urban logistics. The project connects different levels, from technology to regulation and use in urban space.
What is the TRACE project and why is it important?
The TRACE project is a European research and development project within the Horizon Europe program that focuses on the future of logistics, especially last-mile delivery in cities. Its goal is to develop a smart digital platform that connects different logistics processes and enables more efficient, sustainable and coordinated delivery.
The project involves 28 partners from 11 countries, including Greece, Italy, Spain, Austria, Estonia, Luxembourg, Cyprus, Malta, the United Kingdom, Switzerland and Slovenia. This means broad European cooperation in which research institutions, technology companies and logistics operators are intertwined.
An important part of the project is also pilot tests in a real environment, including in Ljubljana, where Pošta Slovenije participates. Tests include the use of autonomous delivery robots, new logistics models and digital solutions to coordinate deliveries in cities.
Participation in such a project shows that Pošta Slovenije is actively co-creating the development of European logistics and is involved in the introduction of technologies that will become standard in the coming years.
The core of the project is a platform that combines artificial intelligence, blockchain, cloud computing and autonomous delivery vehicles. During tests, they have already successfully delivered a package with an autonomous robot, which shows how delivery in city centers could take place in the future. Such solutions promise greater flexibility, less impact on the environment and more fluid traffic.
Autonomous delivery is only part of a broader transformation. At the same time, Pošta Slovenije invests in the digitization and automation of logistics processes, which increase the capacity and reliability of its system. In the Postal Logistics Center in Ljubljana, routing processes were upgraded with two modern MMS devices, which speed up the sorting of letters and packages and improve the accuracy of processing.
By connecting logistics centers, branches and digital platforms, a unified system is created that enables shipments to be monitored at every step. Such a connection brings greater transparency and enables faster adaptation of logistics flows.

More choices for users
The growth of online commerce places parcel logistics at the center of development, which is why Pošta Slovenije directs a significant part of its investments into the expansion of capacity and infrastructure. At the same time, it also develops solutions that give users more control over delivery.
The MojaPošta platform, which is already trusted by more than 160,000 users, allows you to review shipments, adjust the delivery time and choose the pick-up location. Users can pick up their packages when it suits them best, without unnecessary coordination.
An important part of flexibility is also the branched network of pick-up and drop-off points. Pošta Slovenije has increased the number of parcel machines to more than 350, and in total users can access more than 1,500 locations throughout Slovenia. Among them are post offices, parcel machines, parcel couriers and partner points such as gas stations.
With targeted investments in technology and the gradual introduction of advanced solutions, Pošta Slovenije is building a logistics system that follows changes in the environment. Digitization, automation and testing of autonomous deliveries are connected into a whole that brings users a more transparent and flexible experience.
