Armed men affiliated with the terrorist organization ISIS launched an attack on a house and an exchange shop in the eastern countryside of the Syrian province of Deir ez-Zor, after their owners refused to pay the “zakat” imposed by the organization.
Local sources reported that the attack took place in the town of Al-Hawaij, east of Deir ez-Zor, where the targeted property belonged to the Al-Shalouf family.
The sources explained that the militants used machine guns and bombs during the operation, which led to material damage to property, but no human casualties were recorded.
The sources added that a clash broke out between the two parties during the attack, forcing the attackers to flee the site, while they shouted slogans in support of the organization and threatened to return again if the family continued to refuse to pay the zakat, which is called “zakat.”
She indicated that this attack is the fifth of its kind targeting traders and investors in the region since the beginning of this month, as part of repeated operations aimed at imposing financial royalties by force.
ISIS continues to launch sporadic attacks in the regions of eastern Syria, targeting civilians and merchants who refuse to pay sums of money imposed under the name of “zakat” or comply with the requirements of the terrorist organization.
