“I think that those questions regarding the coalition were constantly in the air. If you remember, not even this year, but last year, we constantly discussed those three scenarios, because basically, according to the structure of the Seimas, we don’t have many scenarios,” the Prime Minister told LNK News on Thursday.
“So whatever the coalition is, this is still an issue, I think, that will always be up in the air,” she added.
According to I.Ruginienė, questions regarding the composition of the ruling majority will be answered after the Lithuanian Social Democratic Party (LSDP) council meeting on Saturday.
“The coalition is formed in order to make smooth decisions. That is what we are focused on,” said the Head of the Government.
When asked if there will still be a prime minister after Saturday, I. Ruginienė answered: “On Saturday, apparently, many questions will be answered.”
As BNS wrote, some time ago the discussions on the revision of the coalition were prompted by the vote of Nemunas Aušras representatives against the establishment of the Kapčiamiestis training ground.
After the 2024 Seimas elections, the Social Democrats formed the ruling coalition with “Nemunas Aušra” and the Democrats, but last autumn they reorganized the majority, inviting the parliamentary faction of the Union of Lithuanian Peasants, Greens and Christian Families to join it instead of the Democrats.
The LSDP council to be held on Saturday should decide whether the composition of the ruling coalition will be changed, M. Sinkevičius promised to present three possible options to the party members. He also assured that the composition of the Cabinet of Ministers will not be discussed during the council meeting.
Currently, the coalition has 80 representatives in the parliament.
