The SLS party wants to share a place in the government with those who share their values, after making a breakthrough in the DZ, which it succeeded on a joint ticket with NSi and Fokus, says the president of the SLS Tina Bregant. Even if only one SLS candidate is elected to the DZ, he believes that their voters deserve a ministerial position. But it will also be a matter of negotiations with partners, he admits.
The SLS party, which she leads, is involved in talks about the formation of a new coalition, as it appeared in the March parliamentary elections with a joint list with NSi and Fokus Marko Lotrič. Out of the nine parliamentary seats that the result brought to the joint list, one was occupied by a candidate contributed to the list by SLS. This is a deputy Lucky Ocvirk.
In parliament for the first time in a decade
After more than ten years, SLS once again managed to cross the parliamentary threshold. According to Bregant, who did not get enough votes for the parliamentary seat, they now want to share a seat in the government with people who share their values.
The starting points of the coalition agreement, which were coordinated by the future partners SDS, the trio around NSi and the Democrats Anžeta Logarshe rated as good. I think it’s hard to disagree with them. She warned, however, that “what matters in the details” will be important. “There will be more coordination here, the method of implementation is also important, how we will do it,” she pointed out in a statement on the sidelines of the ZZZS development forum in Brdo pri Kranje.
She has not yet seen the contract itself, but expects it to be ready in the next few days, she said.
Regarding the personnel breakdown between the future partners, Bregant estimated that in the difficult conditions that await the new government, none of the ministerial tasks will be easy. Thus, when asked which ministry he would like in SLS, he replies that the situation is not such that “a person would strive with all his might” for a ministerial position.
“One MP with the number of 44, 45, 46 MPs can make a big difference”
But I think that SLS voters deserve one of them in the future government. The President of SLS replies to the accusations, which are also heard from NSi in the political background, that only one deputy cannot be enough to assign a ministerial position: “It’s hard to say, one deputy can make a big difference with the number of 44, 45, 46 deputies”.
But as he says, they will get what the entire coalition agrees on, and it will also be important to consider the partners. “I myself want the best person to come to a certain department,” said Bregant. As for whether she could take over the leadership of one of the ministries herself, at the beginning of the talks she was also mentioned as one of the possible candidates for the leadership of the Ministry of Health, she says that it is difficult to comment on what is mentioned in public, but her competences are clear.
“I am a doctor, a lecturer, I know the healthcare system very well from the primary to the tertiary level, both in Slovenia and abroad, I have also completed additional training in both healthcare management and management competencies. I definitely have the professional competence,” she is convinced. He admits, however, that these are not the only important ones, as it is also about “the political side, for coordination with other partners”.
