On Thursday 16 April, Prince Albert II and Princess Charlene officially opened the new maternity ward at the Princess Grace Hospital. This opening marks the completion of the ‘Mother and Child’ unit at the Monegasque hospital.
Prince Albert II and Princess Charlene visited the Princess Grace Hospital on Thursday 16 April to inaugurate the fully renovated maternity ward. Accompanied by Minister of State Christophe Mirmand, CHPG Director Benoîte Rousseau de Sevelinges and Professor Bruno Carbonne, Head of the Maternity Department, they unveiled a commemorative plaque in the obstetric emergency room before touring the new facilities: the double parents’ room, the bathing room, the delivery room and the obstetric ward. The entire department has been redesigned to improve care for expectant mothers and their companions.
A now comprehensive facility
This opening comes just weeks after that of the CHPG’s ‘Parent-Child Unit’, a new facility inaugurated at the end of March by the Prince and Princess and designed to support families during the first hours of life. The CHPG now offers a comprehensive range of care, from antenatal care to postnatal support.
Princess Charlene’s commitment to this area is nothing new: in September 2025, she visited the CHPG’s maternity ward to meet the healthcare teams and new parents, a visit during which she emphasised the importance of supporting families around the time of birth. The completion of the Mother and Child Centre is a long-standing priority for the Princely Couple.
