Phnom Penh officially ushered in Khmer New Year at 10:48am on April 14, marking the start of the Year of the Horse with a grand ceremony at Wat Phnom.
The morning’s welcoming ceremony was held at the historic Wat Phnom site under the presidency of Deputy Prime Minister Hun Many, Minister of Civil Service and President of the Union of Youth Federations of Cambodia (UYFC).
The “Nokor Sangkranta” 2026 celebration will run for six days from April 14 to 19, organised jointly by the Phnom Penh Capital Administration and the UYFC as part of the capital’s Khmer New Year festivities.
Several senior officials participated in the ceremony, including Deputy Prime Minister Say Samal, Minister of Land Management, Urban Planning and Construction; Deputy Prime Minister Koeut Rith, Minister of Justice; Minister of Information Neth Pheaktra; Minister of Cult and Religion Chay Borin; Minister of Labour and Vocational Training Heng Sour; Minister of Inspection Sok Soken; Minister of Tourism Hout Hak; and Minister of Water Resources and Meteorology Thor Chetha, among others.
