“Health” (AKIpress) – In Kyrgyzstan, there are at least 200 thousand people with diagnosed psoriasis. A dermatovenerologist at the Republican Center for Dermatovenereology spoke about this Nurzhan Zhumabekova.
According to the specialist, psoriasis is a chronic systemic disease associated with the functioning of the immune system. With it, skin cells divide much faster than usual: instead of about 28 days, the renewal process takes only 3-5 days. As a result, characteristic plaques appear on the skin, covered with silvery-white scales.
Most often, the rashes are localized on the elbows, knees, torso and scalp. The disease can also affect the nails and joints.
Psoriasis occurs in waves: periods of exacerbation are followed by remission, when the manifestations of the disease decrease or disappear. The development of the disease can be influenced by genetic predisposition, prolonged stress and previous infections, in particular streptococcal.
Zhumabekova said that in autumn and winter, patients often turn to doctors due to exacerbation of the disease.
According to the doctor, modern medicine cannot yet completely cure psoriasis, but there are methods to control its manifestations and achieve long-term remission.
The specialist recommends that if flaky spots appear on the skin, contact a dermatologist and not self-medicate.
