Impasse for the president, EU Office: Respect the Constitution and find a compromise

The EU Office in Pristina, in a response to Express, said that they are closely following developments in the Kosovo Assembly regarding the election of the president.

The spokesperson for this office, Nikola Gaon, said that all parties must respect the Constitution and find the necessary compromise so that Kosovo has stable institutions.
“The EU in Kosovo is closely following developments in the Assembly. It is the responsibility of all political actors to implement the Constitution of Kosovo, reach the necessary compromise and ensure institutional stability in the interest of the citizens of Kosovo,” Gaon declared.
He also recalled last year’s crisis and the designation of 2025 as a lost year.
“As has been said, 2025 was a lost year. It is in Kosovo’s interest to accelerate reforms and continue to progress on its EU integration path, also benefiting from all the support provided by the EU. This support includes the Growth Plan (882.6 million euros earmarked for Kosovo), which is a time-bound instrument for the entire Western Balkans to be implemented until the end of 2027, with specific deadlines for specific reforms – the final deadline for 13 reforms steps is 30 June 2026. Further funding is also available through IPA programs (216 million euros) and WBIF projects (205 million euros). As these are based on agreements requiring ratification, both the functional Government and the Assembly should continue,” he added.
Gaon said that the EU is here to continue its support for Kosovo and that it needs institutional partners with whom it can cooperate. /Express/
