The Guatemalan Social Security Institute (IGSS) reported this Monday, June 29, on the health status of Kevin Alexander Jiménez Ambrocio and Nidia Renata Bautista García, who were seriously injured after being run over by a car on the night of Sunday, June 28, at the entrance to the Atlántida neighborhood, zone 18 of the capital.
According to the medical report, Bautista García remains hospitalized in Intensive Care Unit 2 of the Ceibal Accident Hospital, where he receives specialized care. His prognosis remains reserved.
“Among the injuries she presents are friction burns, damage to her face and amputation of her right arm below the elbow. The medical team continues to work to stabilize her and attend to each of her needs,” reported the IGSS.
As for Jiménez Ambrocio, the institution indicated that he was diagnosed with a radioulnar dislocation, a separation of the radius and ulna bones in the forearm.
“Fortunately, he has already undergone surgery and at this time his state of health is stable, with favorable evolution under medical observation,” said Social Security.
The fact in a commercial area
The incident occurred after 10 p.m. on Sunday, June 28, when the couple was traveling on a motorcycle and was hit by a car at the entrance to the Atlántida neighborhood.
A video posted on social media captured the sequence of the incident. The images show that, after the impact, the driver gets out of the vehicle and tries to move one of the victims, who remains under the car. Seconds later he boards the car again, backs up and passes over the motorcyclists again, who remained lying on the asphalt.
While several people shouted to prevent him from fleeing, the driver accelerated and left the scene. The video also shows witnesses trying to stop the vehicle while helping the injured.
The National Civil Police (PNC) later reported that agents detained Jorge David Rodas Linares, identified as allegedly responsible for the incident, and placed him at the disposal of the jurisdictional body.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the PNC stated that the case “should not be considered a traffic accident, but rather the direct result of an irresponsible decision,” and announced that it will reinforce alcohol testing and road control operations in the capital city and on the country’s main routes.
Meanwhile, the hearing for the first statement against the accused takes place this Monday at Torre de Tribunales.
