Singer and model Suki Waterhouse says her self-image was torn apart after becoming a mother in a recent interview with Variety. She had to build the relationship with herself and her fiancé, actor Robert Pattinson.
Waterhouse and Pattinson have a two-year-old daughter. She says many challenges have come with motherhood and she had to find herself again after her daughter was born. She said that her relationship with Pattinson had also changed a lot.
In the interview, Waterhouse spoke openly about her experience of motherhood.
“I felt like my identity had been torn apart when I became a mother, and I also set very high expectations for myself,” she said. “There has been considerable turmoil within me and I have often wondered if I am doing the right thing.”
She also talked about the hormonal changes after giving birth.
“My God, the hormonal changes immediately after you have a baby are so amazing. It was like I had regained my faith in myself. And so was the relationship with my partner. I don’t want to say I fell in love with him again, because it sounds like I stopped loving him, which I never did,” she said, adding that having a baby creates a new relationship between parents.
“The old relationship is gone and you have to build a new one. There is also a certain beauty in being able to celebrate that we got through this together.”
Waterhouse and Pattinson, who have been engaged since December 2023, have kept their daughter’s private life private. In March, however, Waterhouse posted a rare photo from her daughter’s birthday party.
“My princess is two years old. She is the light of my life,” she captioned the photo.
