The union of the stationmasters – front line workers of STA.SY. issued a statement, against the background of the serious complaint against its auditor STOP how he was asking for 20 euros from a passenger in order not to impose on him fine because he did not have a ticket. Today the employee representative D.D. at STASY, Spyros Revythis, reported that, after the incident, the then controller was “promoted” to station master, causing reactions.
In its response, the union states that “the procedures for transitioning to this position are strict, transparent and have been a regular practice since the establishment of AMEL up to the current STA.SY. S.A.” He adds that each candidate is evaluated based on specific criteria and a psychometric test is inserted “which is the most critical stage of the selection”. At the same time, he emphasizes that the failure rates are high and for those who succeed, a 70-day theoretical and practical training follows.
“Anything else causes undue disruption to both the traveling public and the workers themselves. Our Union does not replace the authorities or judge anyone. In the rule of law there are distinct powers to carry out their work”, continues the union, which calls on the company to revise its statement that “the specialty of the station master does not include tasks of managing or collecting money and is not related to financial transactions or train traffic management”.
“The station master’s specialty has clear money collection and custody duties (money collection from ticket offices, automatic ticket machines) and clear train traffic management duties with the VICOS and ALSTOM systems (LCP),” the announcement concludes.
The case has not been finalized
“K” information underline that all the prescribed internal procedures for the specific auditor were followed. He passed a disciplinary check, the file was forwarded to the Transparency Authority and later the prosecutorial authorities were activated.
At the moment, the case has not been finalized, as it is under judicial investigation. The auditor was given the penalty of suspension of work for 10 days and a change of specialty. By the time the case was finalized, he returned first as a doorman and then, through internal procedures, as a station master. Sources from STASY deny, however, that this is a promotion.
However, some do not rule out that the timing of the case is linked to the upcoming employee elections in the company.
